11.16.24-Spent today testing out color patterns.

12.12.24-I’ve been approaching this project like an assembly line. I am crocheting all pieces round by round, meaning as of 12/11 I have crocheted round 1 on all 66 pieces and only have 8 pieces left to complete round 2. Hoping to have round 3 completed on all pieces by the end of the weekend. Then last two rounds next week, which gives me a week to assemble before Christmas.

12.14.24-completed row 3 on all pieces.

12.15.24- Ran out of the yarn I’m using for Rd 4. It’s sold out nearly everywhere. Idk who needs lime green yarn, but I finally found a skein at a local Michael’s. I also found a “furry” yarn which I’m going to use on the legs. I have 4 more hexagons & 15 pentagons left to complete Rd 4. Hoping to get that done tomorrow and start on Rd 5 Tuesday.

12.16.24-bc of the way I started Rd 4, for Rd 5: ch 3 in ss of previous rd, dc 3; dc, ch 1, dc; then 7 dc; dc, ch 1 dc; repeat.

12.16.24-Finished up Rd 4 & working on Rd 5 now. Only 56 pieces left to finish.

12.19.24-Just 12 pentagons left to finish. Should be able to get that done tomorrow & start assembling.

12.20.24-All pieces complete. Abdomen sewn together.

12.21.24-Decided to make another octagon to incorporate glow-in-the-dark yarn. I had left 2 hexagons unfinished with later modifications in mind. I completed final rows with GITD yarn. Using those for the pedipalps. Trying to figure out how to make legs adjustable. Hubs had ordered padded wire but it’s too short. Completion may have to wait till Monday, which has me a little nervous since it has to my done before Tuesday.

We found electrical wire. Using that for the legs. I spent the day sewing. Lower half of all legs sewn. Fangs & pedpalps sewn. All pieces: tied yarn in back & trimmed. Tedious work.

12.22.24-I was really hoping to be finished today, but that’s not going to happen. I got the wire in the legs figured out. Cut 4 pieces of electrical wire to run through a leg, then the abdomen, then leg on opposite side of abdomen. This meant spacing holes in the HDCs on the abdomen to run the wires through.
Body and abdomen stuffed and sewn together. I decided to weight the body a little. So I added a pouch of ceramic beads to the bottom. Eyes sewn on. I am in the middle of sewing legs on. For legs, I sewed the bottom section pieces together & the top sections together but left them separated to make stuffing the legs easier. Bc of the decision to use wire, I am not stuffing the legs until after the wire has been inserted. This is not my favorite part of this project, but I love the ability to move and position the legs. I’m glad I did not attach the fangs and pedipalps prior to adding the legs, I appreciate having the extra room to work. If I had it to do again, I would have attached the legs before the body.

Tomorrow I need to finish sewing on the legs, as well as the fangs and pedipalps. Then weave in ends & this project will be done! Just in time!
