Everyone seems to be making Ripple Bralettes and Girly Knit Tops this year (especially now that summer has begun). I finally bent to peer pressure and tried to make one of my own with some stash yarn.
“Sequence of Events”
Casted on 204sts
2x2 ribbing for 3 inches (tried it on)
Learned to steek and reduced the bottom band to 168sts
Set up row for cables on front (keep the ribbing on the back)
Cable row is every 5th row for torso pattern
knit ~11cm/45 rows on torso
Setup for shaping; bind off back
Cup Shaping:
RS: k1, s1 wyif, k1, ssk, follow pattern to 5 before end, k2tog, k1, s1 wyif, k1
WS: execute decrease on the the side that is closest to the center of the garment
6 stitch i-cord for straps
Pick up stitches after bottom band to create stockinette lining (smooth side on skin)
Lining Options for Cups
I ended up picking up stitches from a lifeline at the end of the bottom band to start the lining. The lining is stockinette with shaping at the top to imitate the shape of the bralette. The difference in my stockinette gauge vs my cabled gauge made things a bit difficult, but it worked out in the end. Thankfully negative ease evens out any remaining discrepancies
Random Ideas
- continue ribbing the whole way up the back
- i-cord edging on both sides of the decrease areas on the front (borrow additional stitches from back if necessary)
- cabled pattern on front
- steek back area
- make a button band that is only 6 or so rows high
Planning Notes:
