The Harris Tweed pattern comes in only one size. Since I had 4 skeins of this yarn figured I’d just knit it up as stated. I had thought it should be easy to add more size with additions of 4 stitches though it would require reconfiguring the heel and toe. I didn’t worry about the gauge that much and these turned out perfectly sized for me.
I want both socks to match and I started at a red stripe section. I cast on several times until I got almost all the red around the top using long-tail cast on (done loosely). I measured where I was and my first loop was about 33-34” from the black and white stripe intersection with the red stripe. There are two red stripes so I’ll need to watch for that too.
Not only did the red stripes work at the top, they lined up around the ankle and the toe--which was a super surprise! Well-that only worked on the first sock. The next skein was a bit longer between the red stripes so it matched pretty well from the cuff down, but then got further off by the time I got to the toe. The first skein had two stripes of red just before the toe started, but the second one had one at the beginning of the toe decreases, and the other stripe barely kissed the last row and Kitchener stitches. I did wonder about forcing the pattern to match and not having the socks exactly the same height, since they are pretty close to matching up until the heel flap…
It takes most of a skein per sock.
Interestingly, JR wanted his tighter than mine, so I will try a size 1 needle for his. I had him try on my pair before I closed the toe.
