Notes

Tried to knit this yarn with the Short Row Shuffle Socks pattern, but the color repeats didn’t really look much different than knitting this in plain stockinette stitch. It was a lot more effort for little effect.

Now I’m just letting it do its own spiral thing. I tried knitting two at a time for the first time. I’m knitting a row and then knitting 4 purling 1 in the next. Making them my size.

Guessed wrong on the heel and it came out a bit too pointy, which caused a bump or ridge to stick out when I tried them on. I unwove the yarn back to where the heel turned so I can reknit it again. Then I’ll have to Kitchener stitch it back together.

Remade the heels. Had to weave the corners at the sides together though because I miscalculated. Oh well. I think they’ll still work ok.

Addendum: After wearing these socks and handwashing them they are starting to get a little felted. Not treating them harshly, so no idea why it is happening.

My foot size:
Width at ball of foot: 8 1/2”
Instep: 9 1/4”
Ankle: 9”
Foot length: 10”
“L” tip of toe to middle ankle bone: 6”
Finished length: 7”
Shoe size: 9W

Used the kit yarn for heels and toes - it wore out. I’ve never needed to darn any of my socks before.

1-10-2026 I never found a better turquoise so I finally used 30 grams of Loyal Dk yarn. It’s a bit thicker. I thought having the heels a little more cushy might be nice but the corners of the heel are a little square and I wonder if it’s because the yarn is thicker?

I used the heel directions from Afterthought Heel Socks by Laura Linneman. More or less do something like this—Pick up sides of hole on 4 needles. 14 or 16, depending upon which size and then add one more on each needle in the corners. Knit 3 rounds even then decrease knit 1, SSK at right corner (needles 1 and 3) and knit 2 tog on left corner/end (needles 2 & 4). Alternate with a round knitting even until 6 stitches are left in each needle (I finished with an even round). Graft with kichener stitch.
