Used a J hook instead of K (because I crochet on the loose side) and followed the teen/adult size pattern through row 15. Instead of making the band with a buttonhole, I made the band 6 rounds of sc and added a decorative button.

I found this hat can be worn a slouch hat or cuffed and worn as a beanie.
