For a child size hat, I followed the pattern for a 6-12 month size because I crochet on the loose side and my yarn is thicker than the yarn called for. I used an I hook for the hat and an H hook for the leaf and vine.

Pattern is very well written and easy follow. Works up quickly and has great texture!
