Prototype. I knit this twice, the first time in one day in March with horrible results. The second time it came out MUCH better.

First Time:
Cast on 210 stitches, which I wouldn’t recommend, because it creates an uneven number of k2,p2 stitches, which means that I have to start some rows with a purl stitch instead of a knit. Oy. After following the pattern to row 7, which is the decrease row I knit straight across in Stockinette stitch instead of creating ruching since I had such a small yardage. Scarf measures 38 inches long.

I frogged the WHOLE thing because the Stockinette stitching was AWFUL. It made everything curl horribly, and since the brown yarn is slightly scratchy, the edging rubbed against your face and created a not-so-pleasant experience.

Second Time:
I inverted the original design, making the bulky handspun the ribbing instead of the center portion. I also cast on 130 stitches the second time, doing a no-ruffle (aka no decreases) design. This is one of two design elements that have made it to the “testing” phase. Now I just have to decide which is “better.”

Ok, after finishing this a second time I’ve decided that the no decreasing what-so-ever version is out. Hate it. The edging needs at least a bit of room for give.

On the plus side, the length is great for a scarf - a whopping 50 inches, and that’s not stretched!
