This is going to be a great segueway between knitting and watching Alias. Though I think I can watch Alias faster then I can knit these. For non-Alias obsessed people, the number “47” is Alias’ deep-meaning-infused number for their series-long story arc.
After hitting gauge (28 stitches for 4 inches), I discovered the only dpns I had were 3mm, not 3.25 mm. Sigh. New dpns ordered from Two Swans Yarn!
Cast on 47 stitches. Technically 7” round is 49 stitches, but I want these to truly be “47” mitts.
My difficulty with altering the number of stitches and then trying to remember which row I’m on meant that I frogged and refrogged the cuff about 5 times (this doesn’t include the various amounts of tinking and trying to pick up dropped stitches, etc). Ugh.
But now, finally, I have the pattern down pat. And it’s looking so pretty!
2013 Update:
Honestly, I don’t know what I was thinking when I first paired this yarn with this pattern. One is worsted and the other is sport weight. Was I seriously just blindly picking yarns and patterns and pairing them together? I’ve noticed this a few times with these really old WIPs I am working through and it boggles my mind that I was ever so ignorant about how to knit. But I apparently was.
Thumb gusset adjustment to work with sportweight yarn: knit three stockinette rows before starting increases. Then, instead of 15 thumb gusset stitches, I am working the thumb gusset until I have 19 stitches. Also, I have short hands, so I’m doing the increase row for the thumb gusset every other row instead of every third row.
