Notes

Really loving this so far. This pattern is so well written - the attention to detail is superb! I am really enjoying this one :D

Knitting this up in my fave Hartlam colourway thus far - “Indulgence” certainly is aptly named! I love the Sutherland DK already - the merino is as always wonderful to knit with and the stellina just adds a little something special to the whole experience.

I am using a 4.5mm needle as I’m working in DK weight. I’m grateful for the helpful advice given by Laura in this forum post in this regard!

10/2: finished the set up rows and first repeat of charts 1 and 2.

22/2: I had to stop working on this due to time constraints (back at varsity!) and left this project for too long. I’m now out of the ‘swing’ of the charts and have thus decided to frog and start again. Trying the written instructions this time because I seem to have a mental block about the right side being on the even rows of the chart…
Frogged. Finished set up rows. Finished first working of chart 1.

23/2: finished first working of chart 2 and second working of chart 1; got up to row 20 of second working of chart 2. Placing markers between the repeats is really useful, and I’m preferring the written instructions on this one, weirdly! Such a lovely, relaxing knit :)

24/2: finished second working of chart 2. Finished third working of chart 1.

25/2: finished third working of chart 2. First skein used up - as I’d hoped! It’s looking beautiful - loving the subtle diamond pattern and shimmery stellina against the lovely colours of this wool :)

26/2: finished transition band and increase row - NB that these are KFBs! I am really hoping to get this done by the 28th so I can enter it into the Hartlam competition…but cutting it pretty fine!!

27/2: managed to complete a grand total of - ahem - four rows of the fourth chart today o.O Sadly I don’t think that finishing by tomorrow is a viable option, especially as I have an assignment due on Friday :( I just didn’t realise how long the last couple of rows are - takes forever just to do one!

28/2: as I was working on row 6, my circular needles snapped and stitches and stitch-markers went flying! I think the universe is telling me to put the knitting aside and concentrate on my schoolwork, lol. Luckily I managed not to drop a single stitch, and I do have some straight needles in this size available. I am a little disappointed that I won’t be able to enter this shawl into the contest, but something tells me it’s going to be worth the wait!

1/3: so after all that…I got an extension on my assignment! :| And, after completing most of it, I had a bit of time to knit - yay! :) Finished up to row 10 of the final chart. Starting to worry about running out of wool. I will have just enough - hopefully - to finish, or might have to omit row 12. Hoping to finish this tomorrow :)

2/3: it’s finished!!! :D After using literally every scrap of the Sutherland DK, I did ultimately run out of wool on the BO row (it chows yardage, wow!). Luckily, this happened with only about 40 stitches to go, and I had some brown wool in my stash that blended in well enough to finish the row off. I am THRILLED with how the FO looks and am pleasantly surprised by the shape of the finished shawlette (very curved!). I am also absolutely in love with the Indulgence colourway - it looks PHENOMENAL knitted up!! :D Going to block this tomorrow and take pictures as soon as I have a gap :)

Overall: terrific pattern and sublime yarn = fantastic project! :D I can see myself wearing this a lot, especially over the approaching winter months :)

Blocked dimensions: 68” by 18”.
It actually turned out shawl-sized, although I followed the shorter set of instructions, which is awesome! :)

29/3: finally put up some better pics! :)
