I made this in the the smallest neck size, but I bought enough yarn for the largest. I have A LOT of yarn left over … time for a hat and mittens.

This is a fabulous pattern. I highly recommend it as a beginning knitting project for someone who is just learning stranded colorwork … or for anyone who enjoys colorwork in the round.

When I make this again (and I will), I will use a longer cable than is recommended for the size U.S. 11 circular needle. The pattern calls for a 40 inch, but Ístex Álafoss Lopi yarn is so thick, I think the next size up might work better -- not sure.

I will also use smaller than a size U.S. 9 when I pick up the stitches at the neck to complete the turtleneck section. I think an 8 would work well for me.

In Ístex Álafoss Lopi, this makes a very heavy, warm capelet. I would like to make a second one in a lighter wool as well -- for cool (not cold) days.
