72sts - 2,5mm - top-down - heel flap and gusset

Trying to make the most out of a partial mystery skein of self-patterning yarn I bought on a fleamarket last summer. I’m going to give helical knitting a try, I’ve been wanting to try it for a while because I like the looks of this technique. More microstripes, yay! I’m combining the self-patterning yarn with two solid colors that are also in the color palette of the main yarn.

This was my take-along project on a weekend with friends in Moresnet, hence the name. It’s lovely to have some memories attached to this pair of socks.

I’m a while into this project and I realize that I have so many pretty skeins in my stash, and yet I’m set on using bits and bobs and I end up making these ugly ducklings I decided for myself from now on to give priority to my pretty skeins and to no longer think that a skein is ‘too pretty to use’!
