Notes

3/11/2018 UPDATE:
Beautiful spring day for a FO photo shoot. The mitts turned out well and very light weight. It will be great for transitional weather or for warmth in chilly rooms. My daughter loved it and probably will borrow it.

Note:
These Mitts were inspired by watching Suzanne Bryan’s Fingerless Mitt Tutorial on Youtube.

I did my own pattern using Ann Budd’s The Knitter’s Handy Book of Paterns as a reference (Mittens section pg. 8-15)

Gauge:
No Gauge Swatch done.
I prefer my mitts snug.
Guestimate gauge to be 7sts per 1” based on yarn I’m using and from my experience of doing many fingerless mitts. The first mitt will be my gauge…

Yarn:
Navy 4ply Lace - 69 grams
Light Blue-Green 4ply Lace - 149 grams
Combine these 2 yarns to get light fingering weight yarn.

Testing yarn for durability and shrinkage/growth after wet blocking.

The color combination is lovely. This will possibly be made into a top inspired by Sun and Moon (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sun-and-moon-2) and Vivian (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vivian-5)

Technique to Practice:
Tubular CO.

2017.02.23:
Tubular Cast On:
youtube video:
Tubular CO in the Round w 1x1 ribbing

Cuff:
48 sts on needles
3” of 1x1 Ribbing

Hand:
5 Round of St-st

Thumb Gussets:
Next Round: begin Thumb Gusset
Rnd 1:TG (50 sts on needles)
Rnd 2: St-st
Rnd 3: St-st
Rnd 4-24: Repeat Rnd 1-3 7x more (64 sts on needles)
Rnd 25: Do Rnd 1 again (66 sts on needles)
You should have 21 TG sts

Upper Hand:
Rnd1: After transferring Gusset Stitches to waste yarn/spare circular needles, CO 3 stitches using Backward Loop CO on Right needle (this replaces original 3 stitches used for Gusset stitches on TG Rnd 1) then knit to end of Rnd.
Rnd 2-10: St-st
Rnd 11: Change to 1x1 Ribbing
Rnd 12-30: 1x1 Ribbing

Tubular BO:

Thumb:
Decreased down to 20 sts for St-st section at base of thumb. Did 4-5 rounds in St-st including PU round.
Decreased down to 16 sts for ribbing at thumb knuckle area. Did 7 Rnds of 1x1 Ribbing then used JSSSBO.

Pre-Block:
Mitt 1: 12g
Light Blue Green 4ply - 6g
Navy 4ply - 6g
Length: 8.25” (21cm)
3.25” - Cuff Ribbing
3.50” - Hand
1.75” - Upper Hand Ribbing
m< gauge: 8sts per 1”

Mitt 2: 11g
Dimensions: same as Mitt 1

Post Block:

Thoughts:
Great basic mitt to practice different techniques and as base to do own design.
I liked the Tubular CO. The tubular BO was ok, my last few BOs done were a bit loose and I was impatient for this to be done. I prefer JSSSBO for a more flexible BO so the long ribbing of the upper hand can be folded down.
