Quirky and Fun

5mm needles and didn’t worry about gauge.

I used some itch-free Stylecraft Jeanie in Black (60g) from my stash because I really wanted a black hat - can’t quite believe that I didn’t have one already!

Very straightforward until it came to the handle at the top - I think maybe the pattern is wrong, stating that you should graft the sides together first so after a few failed attempts I went with my instincts and now it’s pretty perfect. There was also a direction to move the yarn to the start of one of the sides but not how to do this, so again, I just messed about with this and in the end I cut the thread (leaving around 1.5 metres just to be on the safe side) and I threaded this thread through each stitch on the ‘back’ needle to get to the side and then I grafted the front to the back, moving onto the sides afterwards.

It was also necessary to close a hole after grafting, which I did with mattress stitch and then I sorted out the ends on the inside of the hat.

I love it but it dropped a star for clarity because of the faffing about with the handle!
