My Beth Warmer is finished!

Here are a few tips for anyone interested in making a neck warmer:

• The patterns are knitted in a separate row. This means that you only work with the pattern thread (or pattern color) in this row; all other stitches that are not part of the pattern are simply slipped.
• You end up with really long tension threads on the back—some over 9 stitches. This can be a bit tricky, as you don’t want to pull them too tight. And since you work the pattern color separately, you can also catch or cross them at the back in the next row so that they don’t stick out so much.
• Tight neckline: Unfortunately, I had to cut off my beautiful finished neckband with scissors because it was planned much too tight in the instructions. With a head circumference of just over 61 cm, I have a large head for a woman. So I provisionally picked up 92 stitches instead of 86 at the neckline. But as I said, I had to redo it completely. With 100 stitches (and the loosest Italian cast-off I’ve ever done), it fits now.

By the way, the gauge swatch worked out perfectly for me. I’m not working with the original yarn, as my local yarn store unfortunately doesn’t carry Isager Yarn.

Oh, and I ran out of purple wool. That means: I already knew when I was knitting the first long ribbing on the side that I wouldn’t have enough wool for the second ribbing, let alone the collar. So I only knitted 4 rows in purple – and then the fifth row, the preparatory rows and the Italian bind-off itself in black.

That way, I actually had just under 12 grams left, which was almost enough for half the collar. But I didn’t want such a long stand-up collar anyway, so I decided to finish the collar at about half way. So if you’re wondering: yes, the collar is shorter than the original.
