3rd April 2016
I decided to do minimal stocking stitch segment and wanted to launch straight into the pattern. I have done 6 and a half repeats of the Arch lace (chart 2) and 1 repeat of the Stained Glass lace (chart 3). My plan is to carry on with another repeat of the Stained Glass, carefully weighing it as I go and stopping to do a picot bind off on the WS when it seems like the best time to do it!

I have been weighing my yarn regularly and this is what I have so far.

Started of with 97g

After brief stocking stitch and 1st repeat of Arch lace = 94g remaining

2nd repeat of Arch lace = 89g remaining

3rd repeat of Arch lace = 83g remaining

4th repeat of Arch lace = 73g remaining

5th repeat of Arch lace = 61g remaining

6th repeat of Arch lace = 46g remaining

Partial repeat of Arch lace ready for Stained glass edging = 36g remaining

1st repeat of Stained glass = 16g remaining

I have just done line 1 of the next repeat of the Stained glass chart and I’m down to 15g. I’m estimating I will do up to the end of either row 3 or row 5 and then do picot binding which has to be done on WS. I’m thinking I’ll want about 5g for the bind off but I’ll keep an eye on how much I’m using per row as I know the bind off needs a lot more than a normal row, especially a picot bind off.

In the end did 7 rows of a 2nd repeat of the Stained Glass section. I did do 9 but ripped back as I realised I wouldn’t have enough yarn to do the bind off otherwise!

Completed the shawl with a picot bind off on 6th April. Ended up with 1g left over - not bad! Hope to block it this weekend.

Finally got round to blocking this. The only thing I would change would be to do more repeats of the edging pattern (Stained Glass lace) than the 1st pattern repeat (Arches lace).

Pleased overall, even if I need far more practice at blocking. Yarn is super soft (so much so my Mum tried to steal it before I’d blocked it :) ) - hope it still is soft after blocking.
