Things I learned In Brioche Class

Your Speeches To Self
- Set up
Slip - Bring It Around - Purl

  • BARKing with MC

K2tog - YO - Slip

-BURPing with CC
Slip - Bring Yarn Through (in order to purl) P2tog
-{bc the yarn is already in front when you slip - it creates the yarn over automatically when you bring it thru to purl)

The Main Color

  • You start the CO with it.
  • Always place it BACK and far away from you. (This is opp of what pattern makers say but Andrea says it makes things work out)
  • Its always a “BARK” row.
  • This will be the color you are looking at while you are knitting. (And my opinion for the moment is that it should be the lighter brighter color)

The Contrast Color

  • Always place it FRONT and close to you.
  • Its always a “BURP” row.

Random Bits
- A single stitch needs a friend.

  • Friends (fwbrolling_on_the_floor_laughing) need to get married.

-The end of the row (round) is critical - The marker, the stitches and the working yarn can all get mucked up.

  • The thing that messes people up with brioche pattern wording is reading the Slip 1 YO as 2 separate actions. They are not separate. It is a distict complete action. fox_face

  • All slips are Purlwise

As of bedtime on Sunday 4/3
I have done one section of
Rnd 7 MC

04-06-2022

Currently on 2nd time thru of the pattern body

On row 12 Main Color

Got up to the last 2 pattern repeats - Discovered on the middle stitch where I was supposed to have Bark -YO- Bark, that instead …
I just barked. So - need to figure out how to drop down and fix that.
Hmmm

  • Brioche Notes

In regular brioche the slip stitches are Purlwise…
Except…
Except when you are decreasing the decrease slips are done Knitwise!

For figuring things out…
Remember…
Barking leaves behind ready made burps.

I am looking at RIPping this out and starting over.

Main Motivation for RIP
I had some mistake, likely in Crown Decrease Round 5 area. I should be at 24 stitches but have 26.

***** It is an imperative I learn how to tink brioche.

Secondary RIP motivation
The pattern circumference calls for 17.5. My circumference is a whopping 21.
The pattern calls for height of 8.5. My current height is 10.
So - My hat definitely suffered from the lack of gauge check.

Tertiary RIP Motive
Pattern gauge 20 st = 4”
My gauge 20 st = 5.5”
So….
