General Notes

Needed 233” of yarn for 130 cast on stitches

Somewhere during the second color pattern I thought this was the most boring project ever. But then I had a few instances where I needed mindless knitting to bring along and this project saved the day. :)

1 Plum
2 Purple
3 Violet
4 Royal Blue
5 Aquamarine
6 Peacock
7 Evergreen
8 Avocado
9 Honey
10 Tomato - subbing Pumpkin
11 Red - subbing Cranberry

6/15 - Starting Violet. Hello progress. :)

6/15 - 2.5 + 7 + 7 = 16.5% Progress so far…

9/9/16 Starting Royal Blue

9/9/16 = 2.5+7+7+7 = 23.5%

3/8/17 Starting Aquamarine = 2.5 + 28 (4x7 done) = 30.5 :)

Trying to figure out the border.

Did a small garter swatch to compare to each section.

Determined each stripe required 13 stitches (4 of them required 14)
So 13 stitches x 11 stripe blocks plus 4 = 147.
Each of the top and bottom border strips requires 3 stitches.
So 147 +3+3 =153…

So 153 is what I’m going to try for my first strip.

Tried 153… Just a tad short.

Gonna try 160

Btw: For casting on purposes - it was 3 x my full wing span.

Had to try yet again
184 is the winning total
16 stitches per stripe
4 stitches per border

  • Side note: Absolutely no idea how the original pattern thought 224 stitches would work!?

So…
184 didn’t work…
I think it was still short.
I think my tension kept getting tighter as I did these.

So far with the separate strip I tried 153, 160 & 184…

I tried picking up stitches.
I did 18×11 = 198 + 8 = 206.
Oddly this is too big and caused ruffling. So back to the drawing board…

Pinched the ruffles and pinned them to estimate number of stitches.
Gonna try picking up
14×11 = 154 + 8 = 162

Tried 14 - it was fine - but I had to redo bc I picked up too close to the edge.

Redid with
15×11 = 165 + 8 = 173

Bound Off!

Weaved in ends.

Machine washed on
I risked this to see if it can withstand it.
Caused it to fuzz quite a bit.
Should do gentle cycle next time.
