Notes

The very first version of Papilio. This version was knit bottom-up and partly flat, but other than that it is pretty much exactly like the pattern. These sleeves have wide ribbing, which I find kind of bothersome - one day I will rip them and knit them narrower…

Original project notes
Using the stitch count from this Drops jacket, the butterflies from kotka and the flowers from Skåne, I am making a jacket of my own design.

The butterflies on the side of the button bands are knit in intarsia. The first stitch of the next butterfly is knit on the same row as the previous butterfly’s last stitch. I tried to place them so they look like they are flying up the sweater (ie, not directly on top of each other).

I skipped the first step of the pattern, and “only” cast on 252 stitches and knit 2-by-2 ribbing for approximately 5 cm before I decreased and started stockinette.

I knit the body back and forth (using mirror knitting for the purl stitches), but knit the yoke in the round and steeked it. So as not to have a difference in bulk beneath the button bands on the body and yoke I cast on 3 stitches on each side when I started stockinette. I crocheted all the way along the body as well, before cutting the yoke open.

Mother of pearl buttons from Perlehuset.

May 8th; finished the first skein of dark blue, and I am about halfway up the body.
May 11th; Yay, body is finished! A little under two skeins of dark blue used, 7 butterflies high.
May 12th; Cast on arms
May 22nd; Finally finished sleeves (so boring). 55 cm total pre-block, I expect some shrinking. Started yoke.
June 18; Finished jacket. 210 gr. Looked pretty hole-y, but fluffed up very nicely after washing.
July 2015: Redid the button bands with yarn held double and many more buttons.

Final weight; 220 grams
Lengths (including ribbing)
Yoke: 23 cm
Body (from sleeve division): 38 cm
Sleeves (from sleeve division): 53 cm (too long, in my opinion)
