Notes

Reading this pattern today, I can’t believe how vague it is and that I was able to make three of these in the round on double point needles without any problems!

20230326: Already having concern about how thin the yarn is. Original plan with Stylecraft Special DK is canceled. Trying Red Heart Super Saver. Definitely better. Stylecraft going to Goodwill.

20230406: Cuff - 14 rows = 2”

20230614: Heel is turned. Couldn’t remember how to pick up stitches on the edge neatly so ran a row of crochet slip stitches and picked them up.

20230619: Stocking base complete. Working the ends is next. Not sure about the pointy toe on this one. I had reduced the stitch count to 6, decreasing four stitches at a time with an even row between. Need to buy an orange and see what it looks like with that in the toe.

20230702: Ends done. Next up is duplicate stitch.

20230703: Had to undo the duplicate stitch three times. Switched to using a #0 steel crochet hook instead of a needle and it’s so much easier. No yarn splitting, no yarn twisting, and more precise stitches.

First up is the elephants from Surprise Sok.

The Snowflakes were inspired by Annabelle’s baby’s xmas stocking and the Trees from Kei’s Christmas Stocking. Both are Michelle Hunter patterns and glad to have her pattern for the next time I try knitting stockings. (If there is a next time.)

Snowflakes took 7g of White.

Trees took 3g of Hunter Green.

20230712: Checked that pointed toe using an apple and it is a definite no go. Need to rip it back and redo so it’s rounder.

20230714: Struggling with the duplicate stitch for the name. It’s too thin. Tried different yarn. Still too thin.

20230818: After pondering this, I decided to try using surface crochet for the name and it works.

20230820: Name is done and ends worked in. Only thing left is to fix the pointy toe.

20230821: Undid toe back to 24 stitches. Tried three different ways of seaming it and did not like any of them. So decided to reduce 4 stitches a round with no even row between. At 12 stitches, decided to try closing it again. Looks acceptable now.

Made the bells braid in red, gold, and green in memory of my husband.
