December 21: First foundation rows + 1.5 rows of Siberian Stitching -- I STARTED!
December 29: About 10% complete in eight days. Of course, that’s across Christmas, but I’m on vacation, too.
January 1: About 20% complete, and this is the BACK side. I’ll be alternating views front-to-back every ten percent. Each row takes about 20 minutes, and there are close to 350 rows in the project.
January 4: 30% finished. Probably won’t get to 40% until the weekend -- if then.
January 11: 40% finished. Slow going, but it’s taking shape. Hope I can hit 50% in another week.
January 16: Spent some time off of work with a pretty bad cold. Couldn’t talk, etc. Made enough progress despite that to reach 50%. Yay. View of front and back.
January 24: A day off, and I hit 60%. On the left side you can see one of my “size 12s” to get the idea of how BIG this thing is! It should cover our king-sized bed. I’m thinking I’ll have to do a smaller version for Jim’s gift. EGAD! Did I say I’m doing ANOTHER one?
January 31: A busy weekend. I’d hoped to hit 70% early Saturday, but we had a writers’ group over for our critique session. Oh, well. In some ways, a lot slower than I’d hoped, but it’s going faster than I’d thought. An estimated three-month project should be finished in two. NOTE: there’s a four-foot “yard” stick in the photo.
February 5: Less than a week for this section, now at 80%. As the rows get more simple, the less time it takes. Can I finish in 8 days? A lot of work to go, but it’s getting more … rote. By the time I pass 90% it’ll be almost all black. That means no switching to another color, only to switch back in three stitches. :-)
Feb 8: THIS shot (85% done, my friend Dave is there, too, if you see the whole pic) will give a sense of proportion. It’s HUGE!
Feb 13: And the angel broke the seventh seal and said, “It is done.”
March 14: A rather … bad … profile in the local paper. The most news-worthy part of the project was a different image on each side. Only one picture, so the writer totally missed the import of the project. If anyone wants to read it, here it is. Might have the PDF of the graph for my smaller version posted soon. Depends how it converts … .
April 15: Donated the afghan to a silent auction to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters. The (original) Enterprise Graphghan goes out the door for the last time. Live long & prosper.
