Notes

This is my holiday project, to take with me when I go to Great Yarmouth with my DD Libby (Bitsandbobs79) and grandchildren Annabel (8) and William (5) for a few days. Looking forward to it and hoping to get lots of squares made.

This is for my niece Natasha (15) who wanted a blanket of her own. I had made a throw for her Mum and she wanted one too.

She couldn’t decide on what colours, so we opted to make it a multi-coloured blanket.

I really hope she likes the colours I have chosen.

I decided to add the granny squares to alternate with the flower squares. It breaks it up a bit I think, any excuse to add a granny!

Pattern isn’t too clear, so I have written it down in my own words, hopefully to make it a little easier to follow. I have also written down how I made the granny square as well. You can find them at the end of this post.

I can’t believe how many squares I made whilst away with the kids. Just goes to show how much time I could spend crocheting if I lived in a caravan!!

Just had to add a few squares for another row and on to the joining.

I think I will sc them together, as I want a firmer blanket.

Joined all of the squares with cream instead of a colour(after some debate with my daughters, who thought there was enough colour already) and think I will need another row of 9 as it looks out of proportion (54 squares).

Not going to add too much of a border because the squares all end with two rows of cream. Think I might just add a shell stitch.

All finished, in the end I made 49 squares. Just added a 3dc 2ch 3dc shell border.

Flower Square:

With Aran Weight use 4.5 mm hook
Ch 4 join to make a ring.
Rnd 1:
Ch 4 (= 1 dc + 1 ch), ~ 1 dc, ch 1 ~, repeat from ~ to a total of 7 times. Join with sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch-4. (8 dc ch 1)
Rnd 2:
Slip st into ch sp, ch 3, 1 dc into same sp, ch 1, work (dc2tog, ch 1) in next dc and following ch sp around. Join with sl st. (16 dc groups)
Rnd 3: Change colour
(3 dc, ch 1) in every ch 1 sp around. Join with sl st. (16 dc clusters)
Rnd 4: Change colour
Sc in any ch sp, (ch 3, 1 sc in next ch sp) 3 times, ~ ch 7, 1 sc in same ch sp, work (ch 3, 1 sc in next ch sp) 4 times ~, repeat from ~ to ~ 2 more times, 1 sc in same ch sp, ch 3, join to first sc with sl st. (twelve 3-ch loops and four 7-ch loops, with the larger loops acting as “corners” for a square)
Rnd 5:
Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, ~ skip next ch-3 loop, in the next sc work (4 dc, ch 1, 4 dc), skip next ch-3 loop, sc in next sc, in ch-7 loop work (6 dc, ch 2, 6 dc), skip next ch-3 loop, sc in next sc ~, repeat from ~ to ~ 3 more times, but in last repeat replace final sc with a sl st in first sc of the round.
Rnd 6: Change colour
Start in corner ch 2 sp with 1sc, ch3, 1sc, ch 5 1 dc into next sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next ch space, ch 3, 1 dc in next sc, ch 5, in corner ch 2 sp: 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc ~, repeat from ~ to ~ around, join with a sl st in starting sc.
Rnd 7:
Sl st to corner ch 3 sp, ch 3, 2dc, ~ 5dc into next ch 5 sp, 4 dc into next ch 3sp twice, 5 dc into next ch 5 space, 3dc, 2ch 3dc into corner sp, repeat from ~ around, in last corner, 3dc, hdc into 3rd ch of beg. st.
Rnd 8:
Sl st to corner ch 2, sc, ch 2, sc, then sc in each stitch around. In the corners, crochet (sc, ch 2, sc). Join with a sl st. (24 sc on each side + corner sts).
