2012BAMCAL
2012 BAMCAL Lapghan

This is my 2012 BAMCAL afghan. Crocheting 2 squares per month with a really lovely group of ladies. We have such a great time.

I completed 25 squares and was going to put it on our bed, but decided after all that it would look nicer in the conservatory. So I have 5 spare squares!!

I have decided to make a smaller lap quilt (project page for that is here) with the 5 spares and will add extra squares to make it a nice size. I may do cream squares to alternate. I have kept back the slightly larger, paler in colour squares, as they were slightly too big to go with the other squares in my larger afghan and as I had already done the cable border on them, I didn’t want to frog them to a smaller size.

The cable border was worked on each square and was quite time consuming and rough on the wrist, but I think, worthwhile. (Note to self: Use 4mm hook)

Cable Border:

Rd 1:
2 sc, 2ch, 2ch for corner, sc all along (41 sc on each side) + corner sts.

Rd 2:
2sc, 2ch, 2sc for corner, bphdc all along (45 bphdc on each side) + corner sts.

Rd 3:
2sc, 2ch 2ch for corner, 1 sc (ch 3, sk 2 sts, 1sc, turn, sc in the 3 ch, sl into next st, turn, 2sc in missed sts), 1sc (15 cable on each side) Here is Bonnie Barkers tutorial of how to do the cable.

Rd 4:
TURN 2sc in corner, sc into next 80 sts, 2sc in next st, 1 sc into next st until 37 sts (including 2 corner sts), in all are worked then 2sc into next st, 2 sc into next finishing with 2ch ch2 to finish first corner (43 sts on each side) + corner sts.

After the cable border in cream, I went around each square with hdc in camel, then joined each square with a raised sc seam.
