I’ve made so many of these blankets now. My daughters always want me to make them for their friends new babies.

When I’ve made them in the past they didn’t lay as flat as I would have liked. I think there were too many stitches, so I adjusted the pattern a little and it seems to have worked.

This is my alteration if you’re interested:

Rounds 1 - 5 as pattern
Round 6 Small shell + 2 dc’s
Round 7 Large shell + 2 dc’s
Round 8 Large shell +3 dc’s
Round 9 Small shell + 4 dc’s
Round 10 Large shell + 4 dc’s
Round 11 Large shell + 5 dc’s

When you look at the pattern it is 2 rounds with large shell and the 3rd round with small shell, which keeps it flat.

The pattern is written with rounds 4, 5 and 6 with large shells, so by changing round 6 to small shells is keeping the sequence correct and the right amount of increased stitches.
