This is going to be a king-size blanket for dd Libby’s new bedroom.
Using the silver grey on the 4th and 8th round. Using join as you go method.
I didn’t ch in between clusters.
I am trying to place the colours so that the centre colour and outer colour are different to neighbouring hex’s. Not so easy with only 5 colours to choose from. It is harder than you think, but I am getting there.
I started working 10 random hex’s and thought it would be easy to arrange them and join in a strip, but it took too long to try to match up with my rule, so I am making the hex’s as I go along and joining each time I finish one. This seems to be working so far, plus the blanket is keeping me warm as I work. It is cold here in the U.K.
Getting a little tired of the colours, not my most favourite colour scheme, but I won’t be beaten, so I am working constantly on it in order to finish, as my middle daughter Cathy wants one too. I hope she chooses nicer colours, fingers crossed!
I am so glad this one is “put to bed” ha-ha. It has been the largest blanket I have ever made and my arms are aching from all of the lifting. It has been a real workout. I could never find where I was after putting it down, even though I placed a pink marker to mark the spot.
It has been a month of crochet, but Libby loves it, so all is well:)
I made half hex’s to go along the side of the blanket as follows:
Half Hex.
-
4 ch, make into ring.
-
Ch 5 (3dc, ch2) 3 times, 1 dc into the ring.
-
Ch 3, dc in same space before 3dc in previous round, 2dc, ch 2, 2dc, into next 2 spaces, then 2dc, in between last 2dc of previous round.
-
Ch 3, 1 dc in same space in between 2dc of the previous round, skip 1st, 2dc, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc in next space, 2 dc in next space) 2 times, 2 dc in between last 2 dc of previous round.
-
Carry on in this manner until you get to desired number of rows.
Using join as you go method.
With my border colour, I started in the centre of my hex, around the starting 3 ch and worked 2 dc in the end of each round. My hex’s are 8 rounds, so I did 7 x 2dc’s and then the 8th in the corner sts, I joined to the blanket in the usual way.
This gave me the grey border all around my hexagon.
I will put a close-up of the half hex and hope that you understand my instructions.
Phew, now I can go a choose some pretty colours, as granddaughter Annabel wants a Cath Kidston blanket for her new bedroom. This one is only going to a double, so it shouldn’t be such a trial!!!!
