Final measurements: 190 x 140 cm. I made a total of 140 granny squares using all sorts of different colours and qualities. To afford that many different colours I purchased several packages of leftovers at ebay.
I first started this blanket back in 2011, right after I graduated I didn’t really know what to do with my time and I watched eliZZZa’s great youtube tutorial for this beautiful granny square. I finished the granny squares within a few months but didn’t know how to join them at first.
Eventhough they were all crocheted with the same hook, they turned out differently in size. That’s why I decided to join them by using an open crochet-technique:
After the final round of the original pattern, sc 1 in the middle of a side, ch 6 skip 3 sts and sc 1 in fourth st. This way you should get 4 chain-loops per side. in the corners ch 8 instead of 6. Join second granny square: sc 1 again in the middle of a side, ch 3 and sl st into chain-loop of previous granny square, ch3, skip 3 sts and sc 1. In the corners sc 1, ch 4, sl st in adjacent loop, ch 4 skip 3, sc 1.
It would have been possible to finish the blanket much faster than I did, but I have to admit that I sometimes lacked the patience and instead of weaving in 10374748 loose ends, I preferred to make all sorts of hats /headbands.
