Why Gogol? I was reading “The Overcoat” while knitting this scarf. The neat lines of the diagonal rib remind me of the protagonist’s precise handwriting, the color is darkly soulful, rich in depth.

This scarf is based on “Diagonal Rib” in Barbara G. Walker’s A Treasury of Knitting Patterns, Volume I.
