My boyfriend Paul thinks my Mega Man helmet is funny. He asked if I could make him a Commander Keen football helmet, and of course I said yes! :)

For those of you who don’t know (I didn’t originally), Commander Keen is a series of games on DOS developed by id software. In them you play Billy Blaze, a kid who needs to save his planet by becoming the superhero Commander Keen! His signature look includes his big brother’s football helmet, which is bright yellow with white and green stripes. I’m going to have fun turning this hat into Commander Keen’s helmet. :D I hope Paul will love it!

Because the pattern calls for bulky yarn, I am using two strands of the worsted-weight Spa held together. I chose the Spa because the colors are bright and beautiful, and because they have such a nice sheen reminiscent of a shiny football helmet.

September 26, 2010 - I picked this up yesterday and just went to town. I finished the actual knitted-hat part just now, and I can probably make and sew on the stripes tomorrow, if I’m motivated enough. Glad to finally finish this one. :)

December 7, 2010 - “Finish tomorrow”, hahahaha. After nine months, it’s finally done!
