I’ve been knitting pretty solidly for two days and have five inches of knitting to show for it. I may be crazy.
16 Oct - I’ve done the body and the front shaping, and am racing up the back - there’s only 92 stitches per row at the moment, it’s much quicker than 272!
23 Oct - the body is finished! I’ve done some short rows in the top section to try to cut down on the bulk at the neck, fingers crossed it’s worked! Just the sleeves to go now :)
22 Jan - this has had a long rest, but I’ve started the first sleeve today, 80 rows down, 100 to go before I start the shaping…
1 Feb - the sleeves are nearly done! They’re not taking long, I just got distracted between them.
14 April - at last this is done! I’m pleased with it, but it was fiddly, especially the asymmetric shaping at the top of the sleeves - I can see why it’s done, to make the sleeve seams line up with the front body seam, but I think I’d rather have done a normal sleeve and sewn it into the bottom of the armhole.
I was a bit nervous about inserting the sleeves without a top seam to line them up with, but they actually went in very easily.
I did quite a few short rows at the back of the neck to reduce bulk, this has worked nicely. Sadly I did it so long ago I can’t remember exactly what I did! But I’ve taken photos which might help. Or not.
I did a provisional cast on for the bottom and the sleeves, and did an icord border to the edges of the fronts. I then picked up the bottom three stitches on the border, and worked applied icord round the bottom (doing a sssk every fourth stitch) and grafted it to the bottom of the icord on the other front. I also did icord round the bottom of the sleeves - it’s a bit tedious to do, but I love the way it looks!
