Notes

Took class at Vogue Live NYC 2023.

Used Julie’s “calculation sheets” to figure out how to make the cardigan with my own measurements. Subbed in my own textured pattern for stockinette.

Used a combo of lifted increases and m1l, m1r’s to keep my texture tidy.

Needle: body size 8 mindful, lower ribbing 7.

Pockets - February 28, 2023

Pockets: watched Lucy Neatby’s youtube video on double knit pockets (stockinette) and wrote out instructions for my textured fabric. Pockets 20 sts (5”) wide. Cool technique!

Sleeves Math - March 5, 2023

Sleeves: circumference 13” decreasing to 8”. Total length 19” includes 2” ribbed cuff. No decreases in first inch. Therefore 19-1-2=16”. Start 46 sts on hold plus 6 sts cast on at underarm (1.5”) = 52 sts (13” at 4sts/inch). Decrease to 32 sts (8”) so 20 sts to decrease= 10 decrease rounds. At row gauge works out to decrease every 12 rounds 10 times. Update: sleeves were looking narrow so only did 8 decrease rounds: 36 sts. Switched to 7’s 3 rounds before ribbing. 12 rounds of 1x1 ribbing then four tubular set-up rnds, Kitchener bind-off.

Gauge

Supposed to be 4 sts per inch according to pre-project swatching. Praying the swatch gods didn’t lie because theses sleeves look narrow!

Bands

Lower band in 1x1 rib- left stitches live while I did button band.

Button band: picked up 3/4 sts using Cocoknits method, did not work skipped stitches.

Buttonholes: on row 5 (ws) (yo, p2tog. Next row (rs) purl the yo. Next row, knit into the buttonhole instead of the stitch above. Marji’s “perfect eyelet buttonhole”. Bind off row 10 using Anke’s Invisible Bind-off, new version, from Youtube.

Experiment? I wanted to bind-off the bottom of the button band edges at the same time as the lower sweater band ribbing so each time I turned working the button band, I wrapped the yarn around the needle cord of the lower band stitches. Finally after the buttonband was bound off, bound off the entire lower band including the extra stitches created by the wraps at the ends of the buttonband in one swoop using Anke’s Invisible bind off.

Photos

Gosh it is difficult to photograph the color. It is not grey, more soft greenish blue heather.

Love it, the fit is perfect and the pocket method worked out great!
