Notes

Using the yarn I couldn’t walk away from at the Rose City Yarn Crawl! So excited to find a pattern designed with this yarn in the light summery sweater I was dreaming of.

Stopped by Knot Another Hat in Hood River, Oregon yesterday as I was reaching the hem on the sweater and realized I didn’t have the right needles for hem or neck! Turns out this shop is near and dear to Apogean and it was so much fun to talk color choices and construction. Glad our little road trip to Portland was so convenient to stop in!

I had knit about 11” from underarm to hem in the color work stripes and then am going to pause on this while knitting the neck and sleeves in C1. This way I can see how much yarn I have left to knit length on the body before continuing, since I saw a note that her yarn estimates for my size could be tight.

I was a little confused about the details of picking up stitches along the v-neck but I think I figured it out (just picked up the little looped stitches at the ends between rows). Wish I’d had my resources with me to consult! Anyway, got the neck picked up and halfway through the first row before it was my turn to drive. Eager to see this project finished and ready to wear before it’s 100 F out.

Finished at last! Notes:

My gauge was off to the point where the final (pre-blocking) measurements were 20” wide at bust and barely 15” long from bottom of arm to hem. I would have added extra length but ran out of yarn, and suspect that if I’d been on gauge at 19” wide I might have had an extra inch in length, at least. Will update with post-blocking measurements soon.

When I read the updated pattern note about the yarn amounts running short, I stopped working on the body and went back and did the neck and arms with C1 to make sure I’d have enough. Then I continued in length on body and did not have enough of C1 to do the body hem, so used C2 instead and achieved only 1.5” after reaching 13” in the stripe pattern.

I used 2.75mm for both the arm and body ribbing, and the 2.25 at the neck.

I love how these colors turned out, they were all I dreamed of! The pattern is not written for beginners to follow, as several instructions are sparse and left to the reader to use their favorite method. I did contact the designer with a question and she was quick to answer and provided an update to her pattern tips, which I really appreciated! Overall a fun pattern and I love the results.

Post-blocking measurements: 38” around (so it tightened up a bit to the pattern specifications!), and 15” long from armpit to hem.
