11/24:
Got off to a rocky start. I’m recovering from an exhausting cold, so I didn’t start the set-up rows until yesterday evening.

I tried to determine through the scarf thread (Sock Madness group) whether or not I “should”/could use a slip stitch or other edging on either side of the scarf. (Also worrying about whether I have enough spare yardage for much of an edging.)

Finally decided I would, so watched some videos about various slip stitch selvages. (I haven’t knit much in a while…) Ugh, didn’t like any of them. (All looked hard or messy for some reason.)

Tried casting on and knitting just as written, but I loathe p1tbl as the first stitch of a row.

Ripped back and restarted with one extra stitch per side, to be knitted every round (so a very, very thin garter stitch edging). So far, so good! :)

Didn’t finish set-up section before retiring for the night.

11/25:
Already behind! (g)

Finished set-up rows. I think it looks like it should, but I am intimidated by the first clue (technically yesterday’s clue) and haven’t even peeked at today’s clue! Hoping to at least finish yesterday’s clue today, but we’ll see…

11/26:
Stopped on Row 11 yesterday. Was getting late and didn’t want to try to figure out the scary 5 in a circle until I was fully awake and not distracted.

So far today, I’m up to Row 20. Still behind, but making progress. Might actually get to start today’s clue before bed, if I keep at it and don’t get side-tracked. ;o)

ARGH. I was going along nicely last night. I finished Row 30 (still behind, but slowly catching up). Then I looked at my work and thought, “Hm… Something’s not right there.” I left it until today to figure out what I’d done wrong.

Well, turns out I followed the chart perfectly-- except that it didn’t occur to me that when working the decrease/leaning stitches (k2tog and ssk) on the wrong side, I’d need to work them differently. And because I was working only from the chart, I didn’t see the new stitches (p2tog and ssp) mentioned in the written pattern.

I guess I’ll tink back to Row 28. It pains me to do it, but I won’t be satisfied if I don’t at least try to fix those mistakes. Someone better at knitting might be able to just drop down a stitch or two and fix it, but I’m scared… I’ve already ventured out of my comfort zone to fix something 12 stitches down in a column of twisted stitches, but this seems too tricky…

So annoyed that I’ve made more work for myself! (If this was crochet, I could fix it in no time!! Knitting, why can’t you be more like your sister? ;o))

Phew. Ok.
I decided to risk dropping a stitch (in two places) to fix my mistakes without tinking back. It turned out to be not as bad as I feared. I think it’s fixed. Good enough for me, at least, as far as I can see at the moment. (Maybe best not to look too closely!)

Back on track!

Finished up to Row 45! Only one day behind. I might squeeze in another row or two before bedtime.

Good ga-rief.
I was on Row 55, near the end, when I realized that my left column of “central double decreases” had something wrong, several rows down. I’m still not sure what I did wrong, but one of them didn’t have holes on either side. I decided to risk dropping down to fix it. That took me a looong time to fix. I’m not sure I’d drop down that far to fix something like that again… I guess it’s better, now. There are holes, but the column looks a little wonky. I hope blocking will straighten that out.

November 29, 2018

Caught up! I’ve had to fix multiple minor mistakes along the way, and my right arm is a little annoyed with me at the moment, but at least I can say I’m caught up for tonight!

I may end up letting this slide and working on it at my own pace-- particularly if my arm aches too much. I don’t want to risk straining it, and I’ll enjoy knitting the scarf no matter how long it takes to finish.

December 2, 2018

I’ve just finished yesterday’s clue (up to Row 128), so considering the time and that I’ve already knit a fair bit (for me) today-- and that these weekend clues are longer than the weekday clues-- I really doubt I’ll finish today’s clue before bedtime. However, I’m not falling too far behind, at the moment.

Despite my many mistakes and the (self-imposed) struggle to keep up, I’m enjoying this project. It’s amazing to see all those different stitch patterns appear, just by following a chart!

December 3, 2018

Family medical drama. Nothing too terrible (could be much worse, at least), but it ate most of the day and will probably throw life out of kilter for the next day or two, as well.

Doing a little knitting to unwind tonight, but still working on yesterday’s clue and probably won’t get to today’s this evening.

Just finished first skein of yarn at the end of Row 142.

December 13, 2018

I was going along pretty well when I noticed that my “tbl cross right” stitches didn’t look, well, right. I re-read the legend and realized that I’d missed that I was supposed to be working the first part from the front. That whole section was wrong. (Eek, groan, etc.)

I considered leaving it as a “design element”, but decided I’d rather fix it. So I unceremoniously pulled the stitches off the needles and frogged back from Row 264 to Row 252. (I had no lifeline! I worked without a net! ;o) This is the second time I’ve done that for this project. It’s making me a bit braver about fixing-- or attempting to fix-- knitting mistakes, I can say that much!)

I’m still not thrilled with my stitch definition on those tbl cross right stitches, but for that section, it’ll have to do. (I’ll ask if anyone has pointers for how to make them nicer, going forward.) I also ended up with one small weird spot on one of my selvages, but it shouldn’t matter once everything’s done and blocked. I did my best to fix it, anyway.
