I really love this pattern, but I’ve realized that, as written, it is far to small for me. I decided to give it to my little sister as a birthday gift. I plan to make a true rainbow one with while and silver in a heavier yarn for myself.
Notes:
♦ The short rows, as written, are very simple and blen perfectly from the front. The back, not so much. The next time I make this, I’ll try TSK or a similar method.
♦ I carried my colors along to minimize ends. At the start of a new row, I knit both the new and old color together for the first stitch (making sure the old color was in front of the new color). On the return pass, when I got to the double stitch, I pulled the old color over and off the needle and then knit the new color. This secured the end nicely and blended well. The carried yarn neat and only visible on the back and didn’t effect the stretch of the edge.
♦ I altered the end of the pattern. Following the previous color changes, I did two rows of Lepidoptra and then did the bind off in the same color.
♦ This was my first i-cord bind off. I was rather confused until I stopped trying to visualize it and just followed the directions. I used a dpn instead of my right hand needle to minimize the weight while I worked.
♦ Weave in your ends every few color changes. I used duplicate stitch and they blend quite well.
3/28/15 - I finished this the other day, but the ends lingered for about a week before I finally decided to weave them in. Thankfully, I’d weaved in the first half as I went. I’d highly recommend doing it after each session to save yourself the trouble.
CC 1: Pop Rocks overdyed with Wilton’s Orange and Lemon Yellow in equal parts. Then overdyed again with just orange.
CC 2: Bloomsbury overdyed with Wilton’s Royal Blue and a smidge of Pink.
CC 3: Grapefruit overdyed lightly with 2 parts Wilton’s orange and 1 part Lemon Yellow.
CC 4: Edison Bulb overdyed with Wilton’s Royal Blue
CC 5: Edison Blub
CC 6: Lepidoptra… Probably. I pains me not be using Chartreuse when I have it. Maybe I’ll save it for a second shawl.
