Notes

The Large Swan or ‘Stora Svanen’ was a Bohus Stickning design by Karin Ivarsson created in 1966. The patterns for the pullover, hat and gloves are included in the book Bohus Stickning The Revival. The glove pattern uses only a portion of the design and therefore is referred to as The Swan and not the larger design, The Large Swan.

I like glove knitting and have been meaning to knit a pair of Bohus gloves for some time but am just now getting around to it.

I decided to use my leftover yarn to knit the Swan glove pattern and give them to my SIL for her upcoming birthday. She received the Stora Svanen pullover previously so these should be a well received surprise.

Although I have plenty of leftover MC (white) yarn to use for this project, I decided they would get much more use if the glove MC was black. There was not enough leftover black from the original sweater kit but I had plenty from other AngoraGarnet kits.

The pattern says this is for a Woman’s Medium but I find it to be much more like a Woman’s Small which is perfect for Ann’s petite hands. I cannot/will not force my gigantic sized hands into these lovelies so modeling photos will have to wait. The second of the pair is in progress.

The lining: I started with a provisional cast on so that I could lengthen the lining if it was too short. My suspicions were correct and I lengthened the lining by 8 rows after completing the gauntlet. Besides lengthening, I also used the final 8 rows to do some additional decreasing from 72 sts down to 56 so that when I attached the lining, it would match the 56 stitch width of the final rows of the gauntlet. I did this in two sets of 8 stitch decreases, 4 rows apart.

Finished second glove. Total weight for the pair = 51grams.
