The center big square is Miosotis and the first two “innings” of Around-the-Bases CAL, then I added a few rounds of sc and a spike stitch design, then two rounds of V stitches.

I’m modifying some of the squares to get 20 sts along edges of 6” squares, and 40 sts along edges of 12” squares. Every square will have the taupe heather as final rnd and I’ll be joining all with the taupe heather to provide a consistent border.

After 20 years of crocheting experience, I’ve decided I needed a “final exam” to test my skills and pattern reading. Many of the patterns I’m using are definitely testing every I’ve ever learned about crochet. Just about every stitch and technique is used in this project, and a lot of planning (color planning as well as square placement) has been required. This is my challenge afghan.

The border is one rnd of sc with the taupe to clean up the edges, then the three strand candy cane border with the three colors: red, blue and green.
