Notes

The lace in this pattern I sometimes see labeled as “horseshoe,” but whenever I look at it I see mermaid tails diving beneath the waves.

In maritime lore, the Mermaid was not just a pretty piece of tail to chase after months at sea. She was a powerful creature whose wrath was to be feared . When displeased, she could call up the winds to bright a mighty squall and dash a ship to pieces.

So in honor of the Wrenna pattern and the greyish purple-and-green of an angry ocean that is my yarn, I give you the “Stormy Sea Jacket/Mermaid’s Revenge”

with two additional skeins i managed to work the chart twice more, adding a decent amount of length (thought not as much as I would have liked). About mid-thigh before blocking. It’s soaked and rolled up now to be stretched, we shall see what it looks like in the morning!

It blocked out beautifully! I really wanted to extend the length, so I rolled it up tight in a towel like a Swiss Roll and left it overnight to open up the lace. Where once it was mid-to-high thigh it is now almost knee length. Woot! I left the before-blocking pictures to illustrate the difference in length as well as the neckline, which also opened up nicely.
