Zagonal is a half-hexagon-ish wrap where the bind off is in the middle instead of at the end!

It contrasts zigzagging lace with dynamic textured stripes, and is designed to be warm, cosy, and fun to knit. It has an engaging and flexible construction that increases until the last third, when it is partly bound off, then decreases down to a single st.

The size of the shawl is adaptable, both the texture stitch and the lace sections can be worked to any size. The formula for the stripes is quick to memorise, and the lace panels can be inserted at intervals of your choice.

I aimed to use as much yarn as possible, but if you prefer not to play yarn chicken it’s easy to avoid. The pattern is designed so the knitter can shift between stripes and lace as easily as possible. If you’re using the same sequence I did, a little bit less lace before the half bind off would give you plenty of spare to work with.
