I-cord border video tutorial by “The Crazy Sock Lady” who is Kay.
k2tog, slm, ssk on right side = decreases
January 16, 2019
I picked this up again. And, for the life of me, can’t figure out how to add squares to the blanket so that the decreases are going in the proper direction. And I cannot find info on this.
A bit frustrated with this at the moment.
04-14-2016
Knitting this blanket with yarn from all of the fingering weight projects that I knit over the years. And some from friends! Cozy Memories. Using 100% merino wool, or wool/nylon blend.
For decreases, 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, slip marker, SSK.
Pick up 20 stitches for next square with crochet hook. Choose yarn at random.
Slip first stitch of each row as if to purl.
04-17-2016
6 squares completed now because I already had to to rip back two times because I added squares with diagonal line in the wrong direction. hmmm.
How do I add squares with the decreases all running in the same directions? Not sure. Will have to check other projects.
04-18-2016
After several attempts to add a new block, and ripping back because the decreases do not line up, 5 blocks are successfully added!
So thankful for the Instagram help. Have added Tikki Knits Georgie Nicolson as the main pattern. Knitters are the best.

9 squares. And all of the decreases line up and are parallel throughout.

Taken out of hibernation. I am amazed at the gauge difference between any given “fingering weight” skeins of yarn. But it’s OK. This is a scrappy blanket and I l
️ve it.
01-09-2019
Picked up to add 5-gram mini skeins that I purchased a few years ago. It’s fun to see how the colors play together.
02-03-2019
50 squares in, and this is all that I want to work on now. Of course, this could change when a new beauty comes into view.
It is such fun seeing the remaining yarn of many of the 150 pairs of socks that I knit to date. My color pallet has not changed in the last 10 years of buying yarn.
02-12-2019
Oops. Knit the same colorway twice. Embracing what I love. This will be a blanket of all of the yarn that I love.
March 10, 2019
At 62 squares. I am so enjoying this knit! I love seeing all of the sock yarn remnants. And there are many! Remembering the persons who the projects made with this fingering weight yarn were gifted to. And, to see and work with the yarn from the projects that I have knit for myself over the last 10 years is such a joy.
This is an on-going project which is great for social knitting!

Ripped back one row. The squares are added in the wrong direction.
September 13, 2019
Picked up again to enjoy. Placed in a pretty basket and always available to work on in front of the TV.
December 13, 2019
At least one square a day for Advent. So cozy to knit with this blanket on my lap in the cold evenings. A simple knit and will use whichever yarn I draw from the basket. That is unless it’s too objectionable colorwise.
81 squares are completed: 9 squares in width and 9 squares in length. See the most recent photo.
February 13, 2020
Each square takes 40 minutes to knit.
If I knit 2 squares each day, how many days will it take me to finish this beautiful project?
For me, it’s all about finishing what I start.
February 21, 2020
97 completed
101 now. How many in all. I love the squishiness and drape of this blanket. I will use it as an accessory piece for the sofa!
(14 x 10? maybe)
March 5, 2020
119 completed ..13x9+2
Why do I have trouble figuring out how to add squares so that the increases line up?
Bringing out the cardboard squares again…
Keeping Track
- 12 x 10 + 4 = 124 March 7, 2020
- 13 x 10 + 1 = 131 on March 11, 2020
- 13 X 10 + 8 = 138 on March 16, 2020
Finished Size will be 15 x 10.
March 17, 2020 Update: Finished size will be 16 X 10.
- 14 x 10= 140 on March 17, 2020 or 87.5%
April 3, 2020
Caught up on weaving in ends.
14 x 10 + 4 = 144
15 x 10 = finished? I have many beautiful mini skeins that I am choosing at random for this project. I might just keep going and add more rows.
And it keeps getting prettier.
April 7, 2020
ya know…..I really like having this throw out on a chair opposite my knitting area. I might just have to keep going and enjoy the view at this point!
May 5, 2020
6 more squares to go!
16x10
I will then begin the “binding.”
May 6, 2020
Weaving in remaining ends. Audition i-chord binding.
May 7, 2020
i-cord border
I chose navy for the borders.
May 7, 2020
Provisional cast on 4 with the binding yarn. K3, slip1, yo, pickup and knit next stitch from the blanket . Pass 4th and 5th stitches over the last worked stitch. Slide down to the other end of the DPN.
Repeat.
May 8, 2020
This i-chord binding takes forever! So, well worth the effort because it gives the blanket a nice finish.
May 21, 2020
This project had many twists and turns.
The last was that I changed the yarn for the border to a beautiful skein left over from The Red Robin Socks. The Woolbarn Strong Sock in The Red Robin colorway was a joy to work with for the binding marathon of knitting.
January 28, 2025
Removed i-cord binding. Adding squares.
March 15, 2025
Finishing up the last three squares.
Then will add an I-cord border.
March 16, 2025
I will use the blanket as is for a while to test this size which is 38” by 52.“. The i-chord border will be added when I make a decision.
March 27, 2025
Since an i-cord bind-off is a “yarn eater,” multiply the edge length by a factor of around 13 to ensure you have enough yarn.
April 1, 2025
After testing for a few weeks, I decided to add two more rows to the length to cover me completely to my chin when I am sitting in a chair.
Does it look to narrow when not in use? If so, I will then add one more column to the width.
