Notes

the tatted violets are only a small part of the project, but if i called it something else it wouldnt be a sappho quote, would it

04-20-2019

provisional cast on, kitchener, and six petals

04-23-2019

everyone in s&b says pearl beads would work best for the middles, so ill do that

04-25-2019

its a lot easier to keep track of where you are if you put a stitch marker in the middle.

also i kept track of my place by remembering that the increase and decrease rows mirror each other. i tried to write out the basic structure of the middle so you can see what i mean but i think that might be something you need to practice a bunch to get the hang of.

i started the small flowers today, which i had scheduled for starting on the 5th but the big flowers are bigger than i expected (since im using dk weight) so im doing less of those, also maybe considering adding two dogwoods (nc state flower)

04-29-2019

i should mention i’ve also been doing a slip stitch selvedge, which makes it easier to pick up the middles, and that the small flowers have a longer space between the petals where i did the kitchener, probably because the kitchener adds another row

also the small flowers are less concave than the big ones for the same number of petals

05-10-2019

since i couldnt figure out the crochet dogwoods, i’ll go with the knit ones but modified to make the notch in the petals more noticeable. maybe do a short row w/ decreases on each side or something

05-10-2019

it turns out that they look kinda funny w the notch so im gonna do them with bigger decreases at the end

05-10-2019

looks like what i really wanted was a six st centered decrease, standard bind off, and heavy blocking

05-25-2019

the day has come and gone, a few more things of note:

i rediscovered some tatted violets that i was going to use for another thing, and thought theyd be nice on the cap too

the cap is supposed to face the opposite direction of what i thought it was, so a) it was falling off the back through the first ceremony and b) i put it on the other way which made it a lot more stable, so you can see it facing that way in the two pictures from and after the second ceremony
