Notes

I bought the Cascade to experiment with, as I was trying a spaced draft destined to be slightly felted. The experiment turned into the real thing when Ada arrived a month early after induction, and I wove with the determination that she would have at least one handmade thing finished for her at birth. I warped Sunday afternoon, and hung it out to dry after felting just as she was born on Monday. It actually felted past what I wanted, because the towel I tied it up in managed to untie itself and the blanket got agitated freely in the washer. The result was a more solid fabric when I’d planned for something a bit lacier felted only enough to keep it together, but it’s still pretty.

The space-woven partially felted blanket was chosen for warmth (the wool) that wouldn’t be stifling (the open spaces), good for trips outside in all seasons except winter, and walks in the pram.

She’s going to get a proper planned blanket, too.
