Since I’m using #4 yarn, single stand, I didn’t meet gauge, so I CO 90 stitches. I did 30 rounds of ribbing, then increased to 96 stitches on the same size needle.

I did use size 9 needles for the body of the hat. I was concerned about the sizing so I checked the Yarnspirations pattern & it is using the same weight yarn & number of stitches that I kinda came up with on my own.

I started following the Yarnspirations pattern when I got to the face opening. After the face opening rows, I used a crochet chain provisional CO for the added stitches. I knit for 2.5” before starting the decreases.

I picked up/took off holders 64 stitches for around the face. I used a size 8 needle, but the ribbing was too flared. I redid the two rounds of ribbing with size 7 needles & BO in pattern.

Done & probably too big for Connor. It fits John, but still too much positive ease around the lower face. I’ll try again for one for Connor, but reduce CO, etc. I have plenty of this yarn left & it did pattern out nicely.
