Janice wants 3” above ankle. Looking to Carol’s socks for numbers. I CO 76 stitches & did 1 x 1 ribbing for 10 rounds (1”). I reduced to 70 stitches.
These look huge to me…
2/11/26 - I got Carol to try on the sock & as I suspected, it was way too big. Ripped!
Next try - CO 70 stitches for the ribbing, reduce to 64 stitches on the first round after the cuff. Because I am not sure how well this cotton yarn will bounce back, I will do a K3, P1 rib on the back side stitches, above the heel (from Basic Ribbed Sock recipe).
I did 5 rounds in white after the ribbing, then started the chart (two more rounds of white). This time I wanted the ears to be more pointy, so I left just 4 white stitches between each ear & 3 white on each end (altered round 25). I did the eyes on round 19 instead of 20 & the mouth on rounds 12 & 11 instead of 13 & 12.
I started the heel flap immediately after completing the chart & more or less followed the magic loop pattern. I did 32 reinforced rows, then when turning the heel, I slipped 1, purled 18, P2tog, P1 turn. Next, slip 1, knit 3, K2tog, K1, etc. - at the end, I had 18 stitches left. I picked up & knit 18 stitches on each side. With instep stitches, 84. I did the K3, P1 rib on the instep stitches & SS on the gusset & sole stitches.
Once I got back to 64 stitches, I began the rib pattern on the sole stitches too. I did 43 rounds, about 7.5”, then started the toe. I changed back to the white yarn & did one even round before starting the decreases. Decreases EOR until 16 stitches left per side, then every round until x stitches per side, then cinch up remaining, like star toe.
