CO 118 stitches & did 4 rows of garter before binding off 29 stitches on each end, leaving 60 stitches for the hat portion (I tried 50, but that didn’t even cover my ears & I have a small head! Note, I did not do a gauge swatch, I just went with the needle size that gave a nice fabric.)

I did 26 rows of SS, then placed markers after stitch 21, then 18. I had trouble getting the center decreases to line up, so I decided to do a center double decrease instead of trying to come up with my own numbers for decreasing according to the pattern instructions. I did the decrease every other RS row 3 times, then every RS row until done. If I made this bonnet again, I would play with the decrease ratio.

I used the smaller crochet hook to seam the sides of the ties, then when I got to the bottom of the hat, I switched to the larger hook. I like that better than the flat ties & think I’d like an I-cord even more.
