Making these for myself as a test knit for slippers for Janice. I want to see if I can use the cat face chart on the instep top, so I need to do this pair in SS. These will be in colors used on the project page.
I didn’t bother with a selvedge stitch, just knit or purled it. I always knit the first row of a color change to avoid the blips of color from the purl stitch.
From looking at pictures of these slippers actually on feet, I don’t think there’s enough length between the end of the ribbing & where stitches are bound off. Since I am also not getting row gauge, I added two more rows after row 27.
I knit 40 rows after the BO - 5.5” before starting the toe. I knit two rows even with the brown yarn before starting the toe & heel decreases, then two rows after. Also, I did SSK/K2tog.
I used the Bickford stitch to do some of the seams because that results in a flat seam - very important for a sock! I did have to use the mattress stitch on the heel & leg seams.
The leg is too wide for me, but the foot is the right size. I had to go back on the first one & sew a wide seam. On the second one, I CO 40 stitches & BO 4 less after the cuff. So, the second one is okay. The first one still looks just awful (mainly the seaming). But, surprisingly, they both fit. I need to rework the first one, just because I am too much of a perfectionist.
So, this experiment proved to me that two needle socks construction sucks!
1/9/26 - Yep, I can’t stand it. I took the first sock apart at the cuff BO. I decided to re-knit from top down, then Kitchener the two sections together.
OMG, how stupid can you be?! I attached the heel to the instep & the cuff seam was in the front! I spent a whole day on this & I made it worse. Geez. So, I finally took the sock totally apart from right below the cuff BO & re-knit the rest of it. Now I am satisfied.
