Notes

Made this for an aunt’s granddaughter. I modified her (the doll, not the aunt or the granddaughter) in some ways: made her larger (heavier yarn/bigger gauge), knit the fabric denser than the original would have been so I could stuff her more firmly without the stitches opening, used a braid/crochet/loop method of adding hair so I could give her a big gorgeous shock of it (a good tutorial can be found here: http://sewliberated.typepad.com/sew_liberated/dollhair.html )(making the hair was SOOOOOO FUN). I also made her eyes and mouth out of felt and used the Cascade yarn (which was left over from making a cardigan for the same little girl) to knit a skirt that was longer and fuller than the original.

(My aunt had asked me only to make the cardigan, but I thought it would be fun to use what yarn was leftover to make some kind of toy to go along with it. And then I went a little nuts and decided to make a big ol’ dolly. Poppy was a surprise gift to my aunt, actually, for my aunt to give to her granddaughter for Christmas; my aunt said she’d tell her granddaughter that the dolly’s name was “Poppy”, since that was my nickname when I was a girl. Love that! What a sweet thing to do!)
