Notes

Here’s the link to the tutorial for the knitted hands.

I’ll use random bulky and worsted yarns from my stash. I was just working on organizing and cleaning my stash and. Oh my. Seriously oh my. I have 13 large bins in my bedroom, not counting my acrylics and acrylic/wool/cheapie blends. Holy freaking oh my. I’ve got plenty of fur - some that is super convincing and beautiful (a Wendy yarn, I think), mohairs - basically about a million things that will work and be beautiful. This girl is gonna get punk and funky.

Actually, as time goes on, I’m thinking more and more that she won’t be dressed like the original.

-will make black hoody & blue jeans
-will make a black t-shirt
-will give her black and white sneakers
-she’ll have long, straight black hair
-perhaps some kind of rainbow-something to symbolize Hayley coming out in 2015; maybe a little chain necklace with 6 glass beads in the spectrum
-might have a couple little funny bracelets to represent the ones Hayley used to wear when she was in my class

2-5: Started head
2-6: Finished & stuffed head (used 14mm safety eyes), made & added crocheted skull cap, made body, knit raglan tee (size 9 needles)(Sweater #2 in the 12 or 16 Sweaters in 2016 challenge group)

Finished so far: legs, jeans, sneakers, tee & stitching, head and body, knotted rainbow necklace (made with dyed stone beads).

The jeans are a medium blue and were made separately; I took pictures in my living room at night without turning on the over head light and the color is TERRIBLE. I knit the legs/stocking feet, then knit the pants; because the legs are too narrow to get over the big feet I had to slip the legs through the bottom of the pant legs, push the pants around the ankles, and then sew on the tops of the legs before pulling up the pants.

I knit the doll’s legs to look as if she’s wearing socks, so the bottoms (what was the boot in the pattern) are knit in the sock color, which moves up the leg 8 rows before starting the ribbed cuff for another 8-10 rows; after that, the leg switches to the body/flesh color and continues the rest of the way. The socks are mismatched because the person I’m making this for always (deliberately) wears mismatched socks.

The sneakers are knit the same as the feet of the doll, except with needles two sizes bigger than the body; the main color of the shoes is held double. I knit 6 pairs of decreases, as per the pattern, before separating out the middle 8 stitches of the toe (first needle) to use as a tongue and knitting four garter ridges on the remaining stitches as the ankle of the shoe. After knitting the tongue (something like 6 rows), I slipped the sneakers over the socks and laced them with a bit of white yarn.

I still have to make the arms and attach them, after which I can put on the sweater, which has to be added before sewing on the head. The purple hoodie is partially done; I completed the hood and body but don’t want to do the sleeves until I see how long the arms are. To finish it off, I’ll add a separating zipper so it’ll be just like a “real” hoodie.

Oh, yeah, and of course she still needs hair.

Body complete, head on, doll is wearing her tee. Left to do: finish the arms of the hoodie and add the zipper, add hair, tie on the necklace.
