Test knit for Brenda Schack.

The pattern is well written, and the charts easy to follow. I did struggle with losing the hanging stitch in the 1/4 LC while knitting the 4 stitches, and ended up solving this by using a locking stitch marker just to grab and hold the stitch while it was hanging. The cabled checkers were fun, and the feather pattern that develops in the decreases is beautiful.

I will knit this one again, most likely with a dark tonal yarn. I used the Vigor by Fiber for the People, which is a 100% superwash New Zealand Polwarth. It split a lot while knitting, but it blocked beautifully, and the fabric is soft. It makes a great hat.

I do recommend following the instructions to swatch before knitting this hat. I got gauge with a size 5 needle, and the finished hat fits like a dream. Sadly (for me), my 18 year old daughter tried it on, loved it, and absconded with it. Must be time to cast on again.
