I made this for my Mum who’s undergoing chemo and is losing her hair.
She didn’t want to wear the tight cap that you need under the silky scarves most people wear and she thought that the wigs were too hot and itchy.
I wanted something soft and pretty and this pattern fit the bill exactly.
To make it suitable for Mums quite precise requirements, I used a soft cotton dk yarn and smaller hooks than the pattern. I originally used a 4mm hook for the brim, but it was too loose so I frogged and re-did it on a 3.5mm hook. This seems tighter, but the yarn keep the overall feel gentle for her sensitive scalp.
The cross stitch was new to me, but it works up quickly, even with finer yarn and a smaller hook. Took an afternoon to make.
I used about 80g of the yarn.
