Notes

I’m choosing to do this without the eyelet rows because I want to do stripes of the yarn instead. (Totally in love with Grumperina’s Budgie sweater, but I can’t afford to buy the pattern, so I’m going to make do.)

Did Rows 1-6 in color A, Rows 7-8 in color B, Rows 9-10 in color A, and continued to switch colors every two rows. I carried the colors up the side without the button holes (so that the placket goes on the inside and you won’t see the yarn strands).

For the increase rows (Row 9, 13, 17, and every 4 rows afterwards), I knitted into the stitch below rather than the front and back of the stitch in order to keep from having the purl bumps. I purled all wrong side rows whenever the pattern instructed to knit. This is because I didn’t want the eyelet rows, so it didn’t make sense to have the garter stitch that set them up.

Also, for the sleeve increases (the increases after you place the stitch markers), I worked them like this: ^K to within 1 stitch of the marker, knit into the stitch below the next stitch, knit 1, pass marker, knit 1, knit into the stitch that is 2 stitches below the stitch on the right needle^; repeat between ^’s. This also avoided the purl bumps in the increased stitches and kept the look the same as the yoke increases.

I knitted the body for 4.5” before working 4 rows of garter stitch and binding off. Total body length of 9.5” from collar to waist.

For the sleeves, I knit for 5.25” before working 8 even decreases (#knit 3, k2tog, rep from # around row). Then knit 4 rows garter stitch, beginning with a purl round, and then bound off in purl.

Used 12mm buttons.

It’s a perfect sweater! I wish I was keeping it for my own little girl!
