This is such a gorgeous color yarn. It’s not really appropriate for an afghan because it is so bright. I can’t imagine anyone decorating their home in this color.
Its stash that I bought somewhere. The yarn is 85% New Zealand Wool and 15% Polyester Effect Yarn.
I have 16 - 100 gram skeins of this beautiful yarn .. sigh .. maybe 2 shawls?
I still think this yarn is gorgeous but maybe it was too much for this cape. I dont know that I will ever wear this … BIG purple doily ……
i didnt like how short the pattern was turning out. most confusing as i am using a DK weight yarn and a slightly bigger hook. So, i have added 2 rows to the ‘mesh’ pattern and increased from a double crochet to a treble … as if the mesh was just growing to keep the pattern intact. (the cape worked out to be a wonderful length by substituting a tc for a dc)
now that i am on the bottom border i am working everything the same except keeping in a treble. i have read multiple notes about this pattern in many places and they all seem to talk about the problems that they have. i am following the japanese chart and having no problems whatsoever. the treble crochet is working perfectly. the chain 108 for a foundation worked perfectly.
i wonder if the others have misinterpreted the chart somehow? i have no problems. it is a bit difficult on the ends but what i have been doing seems to be working perfectly and matches the charts.
Pattern Notes:
the KEY to making this correctly is to understand that it is a doily made into a cape. there were 12 and only 12 original ‘repeats’ to the pattern. to split the pattern, the 12th repeat was split. so that means that you have 11 full repeats and 1/2 of the 12th one on each side.
when interpreting the founding chain, the original chain requirement in the pattern is CORRECT. because it is skipping the smallest part of the round doily and starting you a few rows out. if you try to correct the original chain then you are going to be off and have to try to correct again and again from there which makes the whole thing very hard.
stick to the original charts and you will do just fine.
a final note… it is my daughter modeling the shawl/cape in the pictures. i wasnt sure i liked it until i saw it on her. she loved it so much that it went home with her. it really did look nice on her and really lacy. she loved that it didnt fall off her shoulders.
