I am having trouble with Ravelry not showing the actual name of the pattern because it’s not in Ravelry’s database. The name of the pattern is “Cable Beanie by Luqy and Mary”
The hat is supposed to match my granddaughter’s shawl. I am trying to make sets of matching things for her. Besides, I have a TON of this green yarn. lol
This pattern works best if you use a stitch marker to mark the actual first stitch of each row. The turning chain does not count as a stitch.
Brim
Aiming for a 22 in size hat.
I tried 5 mm (H) hook and worsted weight yarn. The diameter of my hat brim is 25 inches!! Going to try with a smaller hook, 4.25 mm (G) hook - (oops, now it fits a lady’s head).
After fiddling multiple times. I ended up using the H hook with a chain of 87. I have a brim that is closer to the size I want.
Body
Changed to 4 strands of the green. Where I joined my green (exactly like the pattern says to work this row), it looks different than the pattern photo. Nevertheless, I am moving on because I can’t see any other way to work the Body Row 6.
In Row 7 it is not clear whether you work the 2nd set of FP3yoc (my way of remembering how many times I have to do a yarn over - FPDTR) in back or in front of the first set of FP3yoc. It turns out that it’s IN FRONT OF.
Decreases
The instructions for decreasing start after Row 7-8. So, I am going to add the additional 2 rows.
This section goes smoothly if you pay attention! lol
PomPom
She doesn’t give any instructions for the pompom. I was looking for size at the very least. I know how to make a pompom but I don’t want this one to be too big. It’s for a man’s hat and I want the pompom to be more discreet. The one in the pattern picture doesn’t appear to be too big.
I am finished except for the pompom. Going to come back to this later. I finished the crocheting on 12/4/2023. It took me 4 days and that’s with having to frog a few times in the beginning to get the right size brim. At least, I hope it’s the right size.
Next step is to wash the hat and see how that works before I put the pompom on.

Darn it - I forgot to measure this one before I gifted it.
